Back for its 16th season, the popular winter concert series has not only brought amazing jazz and blues acts to PEI but has also given away thousands of dollars in Scholarships to Island students heading off to study jazz. The series offers a supper jazz opportunity, with an early show from 7:00-9:30 PM and a great venue.
From the corner stages of low-lit blues bars, to the spell-binding spectacles on theatre bills, Logan Richard’s beckoning melodies have swiftly risen to prominence in the Canadian music scene. As a Prince Edward Island-born songwriter, guitarist, and producer, Richard has built and continues to hone his catalogue of original music, the likes of which have already been featured in noteworthy TV and film sync placements, such as: Netflix’s Ginny & Georgia, City TV’s Hudson and Rex, and Hockey Night in Canada.
Kelley Mooney is a singer/songwriter from PEI. She’s had a few memorable moments but it all started when she was 14 years old – she wrote her first not-bad song, sang for the Pope and learned how to drive a stick. Since then she’s released 3 albums that have earned her multiple Music PEI and ECMA nominations, a Music PEI award, and a song on 3 Billboard Charts. Along with a solo career, Kelley fronts the popular 9 – piece soul band, Lady Soul. Her Dolly Parton Tribute and Christmas shows are becoming a staple in the music scene in PEI not to be missed. With vocal skills and emotion she clearly feels when she’s singing, she’s been compared to Martina McBride, Sarah MacLauchlan and Eva Cassidy and that suits her just fine.
Anchoring the Winterjazz concert series for season 16 is the house band of Deryl Gallant, Glen Strickey, Ian Toms, and Mat MacEachern. This group has been busy hosting the Winterjazz series and performing regularly on the Island. Some highlights for the group include winning both Best Jazz Recording and Achievement in Classical or Jazz at the Music PEI Awards. They have hosted the Jazz and Blues stage at the ECMA’s, and have been nominated for two ECMA’s. The members of this group have been featured on countless recordings, have won dozens of awards in the music industry, and have performed all over the world with various artists. Past performers include Jenn Grant, Kim Dunn, Don Ross, Erin Costelo, Paul Tynan, Coco Love Alcorn, Ian Sherwood, and Island performers Joey Kitson, Tara MacLean, Mike Ross to name a few.
